LAN (Local Area Network) - A network that interconnects devices over a geographically small area, typically in one building or a part of a building. The most popular LAN type is Ethernet. LANs allow the sharing of re-sources and the exchange of both video and data.

Latency - The minimum time required to move data from one point to another. Once latency is present, it cannot be optimised. The cause has to be removed (as in using an internal device rather than an external one to re-move the latency caused by the serial port). To maximize throughput, use the highest bandwidth available.

LSD - Low Speed Data, in ISDN it is the transmission of Video, Audio and Data in a single 64 Kbps.

Luminance - The brightness intensity of a visual image. The luminance control on a television is often called the “picture”.
