*Note: Miura Conference uses Live Meeting 2003
Live Meeting provides both a rich and a reach client for users with different operating environments.
“Rich” Windows application
The rich client is a full-featured, Windows application console that helps provide power, flexibility, and the familiar look and feel of Windows applications. It provides full access to all Live Meeting functionality including recording and slide upload without the need to install additional applications or plug-ins.
The Windows Console is an application that is installed on your computer. When you join a Live Meeting from a compatible browser, Windows automatically starts the Live Meeting Console for you. This is based on ActiveX technology, and is a one-time installation that remains persistent on the desktop. Additional benefits include faster entry into meetings as the console does not have to be downloaded every time you enter a meeting and an ability to customise the meeting window by selecting which features are visible.
“Reach” Java Console
The reach console is a Java client which runs within compatible browsers as an alternative for customers who are unable to install and run the Windows Console or customers with non-windows platforms such as Apple Macintosh and Sun Solaris. It is provided as an automatic fall back for customers unable to join using the rich client. Only limited Live Meeting functionality is available with the reach console with advanced features like presenter application sharing and slide upload requiring the additional installation of plug-ins.
The Java Console is a just-in-time application that runs in a Java subsystem known as the Java virtual machine. The Java Console loads when entering a meeting and it is completely removed when exiting the meeting.
Early versions of some browsers do not support ActiveX technology and so must run the Java console. For these browsers Java must be enabled.
For full Live Meeting functionality with the "rich" environment we recommend Internet Explorer 5 or later or Netscape 7.x.
